HISTORY:

A special need arose due to the notification by Somervell County Committee on Aging, Inc. (SCCOA), that the numbers of home delivered meals for Erath County would be sharply decreased without additional funding to SCCOA to support that program in Erath County.  This agency was formed in an attempt to maintain levels of service previously provided by SCCOA through September 1995, and to apply for the title III Federal Grant that was previously provided to SCCOA in order to serve Erath County.  Concerned citizens from Dublin and Stephenville established a Board of Directors for the Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc. dba Meals on Wheels of Erath County.  The agency was formed as a non-profit corporation on March 16, 1995. 

When ECSC began providing services in October 1995, there were approximately 90 clients receiving Home Delivered Meals.  That number has now increased to approximately 170 meal clients, 28 Ensure clients, and 37 transportation clients.

In addition to receiving the Title III Grant from the NCTCOG-AAA, Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc. is now also the recipient of Titles XIX  and XX Grants from the Texas Department of Human Services and the Texans Feeding Texans Grant from Texas Department of Agriculture.  The Title XIX, XX, and Texans Feeding Texans Grants are additional Home Delivered Meal Programs.

Long-term goals of Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc.

This agency intends to continue to expand the home-delivered meal, nutritional supplement, transportation, and referral services in Erath County.  It is our goal to include all of the communities of Erath County and to expand the numbers of participants receiving the above services.  We feel that a local agency has a better opportunity to broadcast to the community the needs of elderly residents.  It is not the intention of this agency to provide a senior citizen’s center or meeting place, but to facilitate elderly citizens’ access to such facilities, and provide for basic needs, such as daily home-delivered meals.
