Erath County Meals on Wheels is a part of Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc.

 

Mission Statement of Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc.

Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc. was formed to engage in and promote all activities and projects necessary to improve the economic, physical, educational, recreational, and mental welfare of senior citizens that are residents of Erath County, Texas.

Summary:

Erath County Senior Citizens, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides services including Home-Delivered Meals, Transportation, and Preventive Health items to elderly residents of Erath County who are in need of assistance.  ECSC receives funding from the North Central Texas Council of Governments/Area Agency on Aging, Texas Department of Human Services, and Texas Department of Agriculture as well as local organizations including the Erath County United Way and Erath County.

On a daily basis the staff of ECSC oversees the delivery of one hot meal, five days a week to approximately 170 homebound clients.  These meals are served at lunchtime and delivered by volunteers.  ECSC also provides Ensure nutritional supplement to an average of 28 clients per month. Beginning October 1, 2002, ECSC began contracting with The Transit System to provide in-county transportation services to eligible elderly clients. This service is used to increase the availability of transportation to elderly residents of Erath County.

ECSC provides monthly reports to the NCTCOG/ AAA and TDHS concerning the services provided to clients.   

 

SERVICES PROVIDED

Title XIX and XX Home-Delivered Meals -
Delivered five days a week to clients approved by the Texas Department of Human Services.  These meals will meet 1/3 RDA requirements.  Special diet meals are also available, where possible.

Title III Home-Delivered Meals -
Delivered five days a week to homebound participants who are unable to prepare their own meals or who lack family, friends, or other community resources.  These meals will meet 1/3 RDA requirements.  Special diet meals and Ensure or Glucerna are also available, where possible.

TDA Texans Feeding Texans -
Delivered five days a week to homebound adult participants, regardless of age who are unable to prepare their own meals or who lack family, friends, or other community resources.  These meals will meet 1/3 RDA requirements.  Special diet meals and Ensure are also available, where possible.

Title III Transportation -
Provide transportation five days a week, to elderly residents of
Erath County.  Trips that will be provided include doctor visits, shopping, banking, recreation centers and activities in Erath County, with priority being placed on doctor visits.  Any transportation to a medical appointment outside of Erath County will be negotiated in advance through the NCTCOG-AAA.

Title III Preventive Health Maintenance -
Provides referrals for funding assistance to purchase approved mobility aids, dentures, prescription medications and information, an pay utility bills for eligible persons over the age of sixty and who are on limited incomes.

Telephone Reassurance -
Homebound clients who need contact in order to assure their safety and well-being are referred to S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) board.

Additional Special Needs Services -
Any client in need of special services such as Options or Residential Repair will be referred to the NCTCOG-AAA.
