Frequently Asked Questions
How do I qualify for Meals on Wheels?
General eligibility guidelines require that clients be at least 60 years of age or older and unable to prepare their own meals. We do have access to limited funds for disabled, home-bound Erath County residents under the age of 60.
An in-home assessment is required for all clients before services can begin and each year thereafter to determine eligibility.
If you or a family member is interested in receiving Meals on Wheels services, please call us at 254/965-3510.
Where do the meals come from?
Currently, ECSC contracts with Valley Innovative Services. Their kitchen is in Waco, Texas. Each day they send us freshly prepared meals for all our clients.
What time are meals delivered?
We ask volunteers to arrive the office between 10 am and 10:30 or 10:45 am.
Depending on which route a client is assigned and where they fall on that route, meals are delivered between 10:30 am and Noon.
What other services to you provide?
In addition to home-delivered meals, ECSC also provides congregate meals, transportation, liquid nutritional supplements, Friendly Visitors and referral services to eligible clients. We also have pet food assistance program available on a limited basis.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
With only 2 Full-time and two part-time employees, we depend very heavily on our local volunteers and are grateful for everyone willing to give their time to deliver meals to our clients.
To sign up as a volunteer, contact the office to fill out a volunteer application and sign up for available routes. To insure the protection of our staff, clients and volunteers, we do perform Criminal and DMV background checks.
Where does your funding come from?
We receive grants from the federal and state government under Title III, Title XIX and Title XX. These grants are monitored by the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability.
We also receive support from the Texas Department of Agriculture, Erath County, Erath County United Way, the Birdie Frey Memorial Fund and various fundraising efforts.
We do not charge our clients for services but several are able to make monetary contributions to help fund their services. We also receive private donations and memorials from individuals and local companies. We are grateful to the many local companies and organizations that support our organization each year.
